The Nibo Family Association UK (NFA) held its inaugural meeting on the 23rd of June, 1991, chaired by the Late Mr. Jonathan Okolo. It was during this meeting that the name “Nibo Family Association” was officially adopted. Late Mr Mike Nwolisa was the chairman Mr. Chinaeme Anachebe served as the secretary at this foundational gathering until election was held in 1993. Within this period, Chinaeme relocated from London and Late Mr. Jonas Okpeke took over as the secretary.
Mr. Benjamin Egbe became the first elected President of the NFA, with Mr. Chucks Nwajiobi as his deputy and Pastor Chuka Akurienne, the Secretary. Emeka Nwajiobi remained the financial secretary/treasurer throughout this period up until 1998, and Mrs. Tessy Egbe coordinated the women's affairs and organized the children's welfare up to 1998. She organized the children's cultural dance every Christmas party up until 2008 to 2014. Pastor Chuka Akurienne became the second President in 1996 and deputized by Mr. Ekene Ibada while Mrs. Edna Ifeagwu served as the secretary. In 1997, following internal challenges, a Committee of Elders was formed and coordinated by Mr. Emeka Nwajiobi to address the association’s challenges.
First Nibo UK convention was held, and first Nibo UK Almanac was produced. During the convention, Tessy Egbe and IK Okolo organized a children's dance (Atiliogwu). It was after the convention that the association broke down, and NFA UK remained inactive until its revival a decade later.
The association was reactivated under the leadership of Mr. Chinaeme Anachebe, who became the third President. His executive team included Mr. Chinyere Pius Akubue (Secretary) and Mr. Samuel Uzonwa (Welfare Officer). Under his tenure, NFA hosted two annual events: the August Outing and the End-of-Year Party in December. Meetings were held every two months in February, April, June, August, October, and December. August and December are special meetings as mentioned above. Regional branches were established. Manchester was the first one coordinated by Dr. Ugo Umeadi and followed by Swindon coordinated by Mr. Ebele Evaristus. The dream of establishing Scotland, Luton, and Leads did not happen but still a dream.
His second term ended in April 2022.
During the current administration, NFA has experienced significant growth in membership—both financial and non-financial. Notable milestones include:
Beyond financial contributions and developmental projects, NFA remains a tight-knit community, providing mutual support in times of joy and grief. A benefit system for registered financial members is enshrined in the constitution to reinforce this commitment.
NFA continues to be a unified family driven by a shared vision and cultural heritage.
